Tuesday dinner

Dinner was beef and vegetable soup... stock and random leftover vegies and beef pot roast cooked in the slow cooker (crockpot) all afternoon.

The dessert was gorgeous. I made a quick raspberry sauce by heating frozen raspberries, strawberry jam, and some juice together. The sauce went atop chopped peaches and Swiss custard yogurt. Oooooh yeah.

Did you ad a sweetener to the fruit sauce or was the jam already sweet enough?

I've never given my kids yogurt and fruit together, I actually just started giving them yogurt last year; before that we didn't keep any dairy in the house.

Last spring after I found out our B-12 reserves were low I decided to start giving the kids eggs and dairy. One day after school I brought a cheese stick for J to snack-on while he played with friends in the school playground; well J started yelling and running around saying "look, look, I have cheese!" His friends thought he was nuts --I laughed so hard!

Wow, up until then I hadn't realized how vegan we really were :-/

I didn't add sweetener and I was a little concerned the kids would veto it as a result... because the raspberries are a little tart. The orange-mango juice I used was very sweet though, but I didn't use a lot of strawberry jam. They loved it anyway, I think because they mixed it all together and the peaches were very sweet and the yogurt is sweetened with fruit juice.

hahaha about Joshua. I think it's great that they learned at an early age to eat everything else besides dairy.

I let them order cow's milk when we go to restaurants --mostly b/c few places serve soymilk :-( and they enjoy it like a special treat :-P
