Homework banished

Reported in the Canberra Times this morning:

"A new government school in Melbourne has banned traditional homework. Instead, the 820 students will be encouraged to spend more time with their families, playing board games, gardening, and learning how to bake cakes and sew. School director Peter Kearney said it was "absolute rubbish" to give kindergarten students daily homework, as recommended by the Education Department."

I agree!

All I have to say to the report is: Um, Duh! I wonder why studies show that by 2nd grade students are already starting to *not* want to go to school; maybe it's called burn-out.

I'm glad someone is thinking.
