Good morning to myself!

My friend's mom (well, mum) says 'Good morning to myself!' when she does something which is relatively tedious in the scale of life but still it makes you happy every time you look at it. I say this every time I see my (drum roll please...) newly organised pantry!!! Isn't it beautiful! And yes, Mom, the spices are alphabetised.

On the left side of the top shelf, I've got rice (brown, Basmati, Arborio, sushi); legumes (red and green lentils; adzuki beans; 9-bean soup mix); and grains (millet, cornmeal, polenta, barley) in stackable containers. On the right side, I've got sauces, condiments, stock, and canned fruit.

On the left side of the next shelf, I've got my oils (extra-virgin olive, canola) and vinegars (Balsamic, apple, rice); garlic in a bowl; lots of stock cubes; and extra bits (coconut, sunflower seeds, apricots, barley). On the right side is all my spices on a Lazy susan. Behind are cans: tuna; beans (refried, chickpeas, red kidney, cannelini); tomatoes (paste, crushed, pizza sauce, prepared sauces).

Well, good morning to you indeed!! I am so ashamed of my pantry right now. Alphabetized spices...I am quite impressed!

Yes, looking at these pictures I do feel like a huge honking dork haha. I always told myself that the week I alphabetized my spices was the week I went back to paid work!!!! And it is true, now that I'm working I see that it's more productive to be paid for being hyper-anal. (Mind you my new career of scientififc editing is going to definitely hone these OCD tendencies: 'I believe that's an en-dash, not an em-dash, Dr ScienceNerd?')

Even though I am embarrassed about alphabetizing my spices, I must admit it is very handy. I love my Lazy susan too... uses the space so efficiently. I love having a pantry stocked with all the basics and then I can cook a huge range of dishes depending on the fruit and vegetables in season.

Hmmmm maybe so you don't think I'm insane I should balance this with a photo of my closet... or the storage room... or the garage... or my brain...

Good Morning to YOU!!! But - from one OCD to another - what do you do with the McHerbs? Do they go before the Marjoram or after? Ug! ;)
